Rovinj has always been a luxury retreat for tourists seeking quiet days in the picturesque Croatian-Italian city, in Istria province, bathed by the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. Now it has become the dream of A-listers around the world. The imposing St. Euphemia Cathedral withstands the passage of time and continues to reign among the Old Town buildings, but there is a new “inhabitant” in the region, responsible for bringing modernity to the Rovinj landscape, which has left everything and everyone at its feet.

The Grand Park Hotel, a colossal five-star development just 10 minutes' walk from Rovinj, which blends seamlessly with local nature, is one of the largest investments ever made in Croatian tourism history. The hotel group Maistra has invested more than 80 million euros to reinforce the luxury offer of the Maistra Collection brand. It took over the former three-star Park Hotel and raised the bar, completely inspired by the terrain to redefine standards of excellence and well-being. Having opened in April, it offers visitors a memorable experience with a privileged view of the sea, and the small islands which are just a stone’s throw away, and the Old Town of Rovinj.

The now Grand Park Hotel is truly large, spread over six floors, adorned with over 30,000 plants. By far they look more like terraces of Douro wine. To improve the physiognomy of the bodacious building, the Maistra group collaborated once more with local architecture office 3LHD. The interiors were in the hands of the Milan studio Piero Lissoni - Lissoni Architettura, which filled the 193 rooms and 16 luxury suites with minimalist elegance. The experience, which begins at check-in, represents an even deeper journey wrapped in local narrative and endogenous culture. Upon arrival, visitors receive a travel journal and instant photography camera. An invitation to discovery, guided by the stories of Rovinj and for collecting souvenirs. When time to leave arrives, the notebook becomes a personal and non-transferable object for future memory of the moments spent in the city and at the Grand Park Hotel. Here, tourists are also encouraged to ride one of the available bicycles in the adjacent forested area of a 19th century pine-filled nature reserve. Or to board on a boat for neighbouring Catarina island, with its private beach.

Freshwater swimmers can always enjoy the imposing infinity pool. It's hard to resist the turquoise setting that opens like a movie screen overlooking the sea, and invites us to watch the sunset. The moments of pure pleasure come from the Albaro Spa & Wellness centre and the six restaurants, with a highly versatile culinary offer to satisfy all palates. Aware of the importance of the local community, Grand Park's ground floor lives in harmony with Rovinj. Lungomare Plaza, an extensive pedestrian area, has been rebuilt to take visitors on a simple walk to the city centre among nature, shops and cafés. The hard part is having to leave.
